Principles of Feng Shui
Two essential principles of “good Feng Shui” are balance and harmony.
Balance
Balance is equilibrium. It is necessary for feeling confident physically in our bodies' movements; it is what we want our lives to have; and it is what we find comforting to look upon.
In Feng Shui we focus on balancing the elements (fire, water, earth, wood, metal), yin/yang, and the different aspects of our lives.
To find balance, Feng Shui takes cues from bamboo—staying rooted while being flexible and resilient; and from the flow of a mountain stream—gently moving around the obstacles, patiently wearing away the obstacles.
Balance is about knowing ourselves—our limits and our potential. It is about balancing placidity and activity.
Harmony
In design, harmony combines variety and unity. This is the principle that enables our relationships to thrive as well. Our homes can be places that contain harmonious design AND encourage harmonious relationships. By thoughtfully instilling harmony in our spaces, we create the restorative home we desire.
