What is Feng Shui?
“Feng Shui” (pronounced fung-shway) means “wind and water.” Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed more than 3,000 years ago in China.
In the ancient culture of China, gentle breeze (wind) and clear, flowing water have always been associated with good harvest and good health. The term "good feng shui" has come to mean good livelihood and fortune, and "bad feng shui" has come to mean hardship and misfortune.
The practice of Feng Shui contains a vast body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people living in or using the space.
Feng Shui, in a simple sense, is about returning to balance, harmony and ease.
Feng Shui principles can be used in every arena of your life. If you are feeling stuck, if your life is out of sync with your aspirations, it might mean that the objects surrounding you need to be changed. A misplaced chair may be physically in your way and also blocking energy from moving properly. The careful placement of a mirror in a long hallway can slow down the energy that is moving too quickly. Replacing the photograph of your scolding father with one of you and your friends laughing in Italy will shift your attitude. The right changes can create a balanced energetic flow.
Your home can be a place to relax, enjoy solitude, engage in hobbies, connect with your family, and welcome guests.
Your office can be comfortable, welcoming to colleagues and clients, and can reflect the things that are important to you.
Your garden can be a magical place in the midst of your busy life. Having a garden is an opportunity to reconnect with the earth. Our gardens can refresh us, give us a private hideaway, a daydreaming spot, and can stimulate our senses with color, fragrance, and melodic sounds.
From a Feng Shui perspective, imagine yourself floating downstream, watching wild flowers on the shore as they gracefully respond to the breeze.... This is the ideal pace for a watercourse, for a gentle wind, and for your life. But water/wind/life can also blow you over, knock you down, or stagnate. By utilizing Feng Shui principles, by tapping into life force energy, or chi, you can return to the gently flowing stream, with the encouraging wind at your back.
