Chi (Life Force Energy)
An important aspect of Feng Shui is Chi (life force energy). Chi flows through all of nature, through the veins of the earth, through each of us. As humans settled into agrarian life styles, they instinctively knew that they needed to pay attention to this phenomenon to survive. They built homes and developed rituals with deep respect for these forces. Indigenous people throughout the world have consciously aligned themselves with the physical and spiritual world. They have aligned their physical environments with their unique topography, climate, and cultural priorities.
In the west today, we recognize how much the environment affects our well-being. The physical blocks we unconsciously set up are metaphors for the personal blocks we find in our lives. Stagnant areas can keep us psychologically stuck. A free-flowing, vibrant home and workplace encourages a free-flowing, vibrant life. By working with energetic tools (including our own symbolism), we recognize how important it is to tend to and balance all aspects of our lives. The art of working with the energy in our physical spaces is an important element in the art of actively engaging in life.
Our homes, the “stuff” we surround ourselves with—all of this is tangible energy and is the symbolism that impacts our intangible relationship to the different areas of our lives—health, love, finances, dreams, family, creativity, friends, career.
If you are feeling stuck, or moving in a direction that isn't serving you well, it may be that the Chi in your surroundings is being impeded, or affected by elements in the environment. Through the tools of Feng Shui, the movement of the Chi in your life can be allowed to flow more smoothly, often positively affecting multiple aspects of your life.
